Cleaning Your RV After The Trip

Whether your RV is a mobile luxury hotel suite or just a dry place to sleep at night, it’s the best way to elevate your camping experience. But those trips tend to mean accumulating a lot of junk, and it’s important to keep your RV tidy. Air It Out

You’re going to want to open up the doors and windows before you start cleaning. That helps get rid of any funk you might have built up, and prevents it from feeling stuffy while you work.

Laundry

You probably have towels, washcloths, napkins, sheets, and clothes that need washing. Get an early start on that so you can come back to it after other cleaning tasks.

Perishables And Trash

To prevent infestations and nasty smells:

  • Empty all trash cans
  • Remove perishable food from the fridge, freezer, and pantry
  • Wash any used dishes

Unpack

With the time-sensitive cleaning and unpacking done, it’s time to unload the rest of your supplies, including:

  • Electronics and chargers
  • Toys
  • Board games
  • Unused clothing
  • Toiletries

Empty The Tanks

Double check with your owner’s manual for the proper methods for emptying your black, gray, and fresh water tanks, then get a head start on that.

Bathroom

Your bathroom is going to be another place that’s accumulated some gross. Sanitize, clean, and dry all surfaces to prevent mold and mildew and keep smells from building up.

Awning

On to less vital but still important tasks, your awning (if you have one and used it) will need a bit of cleaning. Spray off any gunk or debris and wash it with soap to make sure nothing sets in.

Vacuum

Just about every outdoor adventure leads to dust, dirt, and mud getting tracked into the RV. Vacuum up any- and everything that’s dry enough to vacuum, whether it’s dirt or crumbs, including both the floors and upholstery.

Exterior Cleaning

If you were in a particularly dusty or muddy area, the outside of your RV will need some attention, as well. This prevents buildup that gets harder to clean and more hazardous as it grows. Make sure to use a gentle or RV-specific soap to avoid damaging the finish and seals.

Store The RV

For those who are putting the RV away for a few weeks or more, it’s best to store the camper however you prefer to do that. Close and lock all doors and windows and park it in your storage spot. If it has to stay outside, try to find a cover that can protect it from precipitation and solar damage.
