Trailers can make any number of difficult jobs much easier, but only if you’ve got the right kind. With the variety of trailers out there, that can be a hard decision to make. We here at Allan Dale Trailers & RVs want to make your life a bit easier, so we’ve put together some of the common trailer types and that they’re good for to give you a leg up. Car Haulers

This is about what it sounds like. Car haulers are typically used to transport commuter vehicles, either getting your vintage car to a show or to get a purchased vehicle to a client. These trailers allow you to move a vehicle without adding to their existing mileage, which can lead to a decrease in value and lifespan. It also reduces the risk of road damage to the vehicle being transported.

Tilt Trailers

These trailers are a bit more unique, thanks to the hydraulics that allow the front end of the trailer to tilt upwards. The rear section can then double as a ramp onto the trailer. This design provides a number of benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Easier loading and unloading, since there’s no need to connect a separate ramp.
  • Easier operation in tight quarters, since you’re not adding to the length of the ramp.
  • Increased storage space, again thanks to the lack of a separate ramp.
  • Faster loading, since the hydraulics are faster and easier than connecting a ramp.

Dump Trailers

Similar in some ways to tilt trailers, dump trailers have raised sides and are more often used for moving material like dirt, rocks, and more. They’re named that because the hydraulics they use allow the material to simply be dumped out the back once the front end is lifted. They’re often used in agricultural, landscaping, and construction projects.

Utility Trailers

These are simpler trailers, great for moving small items, power equipment, powersports vehicles, farming supplies, and more. They can tackle most jobs you have to offer and come in a dizzying array of sizes, making them an all-purpose trailer.

Considerations

Remember that the type of trailer isn’t your only concern. Keep your tow vehicle in mind, as not all vehicles are compatible with all trailers. The hitching style and tow vehicle’s weight capacity will limit your search, unless you’re willing to rent a new one every time you use the trailer.

Your cargo also factors in. The size, weight, and other characteristics of the cargo will impact the size and type of trailer you need. And of course, remember your budget. Some trailers are more expensive than others. Make a realistic budget and stick to it.

We hope this helps you get the perfect trailer! For more information, or to see our trailers, contact us at Allan Dale Trailers & RVs. We proudly serve the people of Alberta—let us serve you today!
