History of Thor Motor Coach®

The early beginnings of Thor Motor Coach date back to 1980 when founders Wade F. B. Thompson and Peter B. Orthwein acquired Airstream® in 1980. They then purchased General Coach in 1982 and ElDorado Bus in 1988. These were just a few of the many acquisitions over the years, with the acquisition of Heartland RV Company in 2010 being the largest.

That is how the parent company, Thor Industries, got their start. However, Thor Motor Coach didn’t appear until 2010 as a merger of Damon Motor Coach and Four Winds International. Thor Motor Coach exclusively manufactures motorhomes. Despite being a relatively new company, they now produce nearly 25% of the motorhomes sold each year, making them one of the most popular brands. They’re particularly popular with full-time RVers.
