Tips for Buying a Used RV
Looking for your next, or first, RV? Many RV shoppers turn to used models for a much better deal on virtually all the same, most up to date models. In fact, if you know what you’re doing, you may never notice that another family once traveled in your camper. The key is to know how to find the right kind of pre-owned RV to fit your wants and needs. Allan Dale Trailers & RVs has provided some tips to get you started, so when you stop by one of our locations in Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton, Alberta, you can let us know exactly what you’re looking for.
Proper Research
Start by doing your homework ahead of time. Figure out what kinds of features you’ll want most, like the right number of sleeping arrangements and basic amenities for the bare necessities. Also consider throwing in things that’ll help keep you entertained and stress-free, like more storage, more entertainment centers, and bigger living areas.
When you’re starting to sift through models and find certain model years that interest you, get feedback from previous owners of that model year to find out what kinds of things they like about it and what issues they’ve run into. Some model years might have the perfect blend of features and performance, whiles others might feature an upgrade that totally flopped. Better to know this information ahead of time than to suffer through frustrating experience after frustrating experience.
Ask Questions
As your list gets smaller, ask questions about the RVs you’re interested in and ask for the vehicle history report. This will inform you of previous incidents and past maintenance checks and repairs. What you find in the report might alter your perception of a particular model.
Test Drive
Just like you would for a commuter car, take your RV for a test drive--or test tow--to see if you’ll be comfortable transporting it from one place to the next. Don’t let fancy bells and whistles affect this part of the process. If you can’t comfortably move it around, then it’ll probably be more stress than it’s worth.
Inspection
Finally, make sure you perform a thorough inspection of the entire RV, top to bottom, inside and out, and in every nook and cranny. Check for any signs of damage or areas that might create a problem for you in the future. You might also want to hire a professional to check for issues that you may not be able to see or don’t know to look for.
