An RV is your ticket to more comfortable and fun camping trips, but all that driving around and living in the camper can get things dirty pretty fast. After all, an RV is also much smaller than a brick-and-mortar house, which means things pile up faster and get dirtier quicker. If you don’t stay on top of things, you might find your camper starts to get really messy!

Bathroom

You’ll probably find your bathroom gets pretty dirty pretty quickly. There’s a lot of bacteria floating around, so keeping the area sanitized should be a priority for you. You can follow the cleaning processes you use at home to keep the toilet spotless. The rest of the bathroom will also need to be periodically cleaned. Just keep in mind that the materials used in the construction of the shower stall and other parts can be easily damaged by the wrong type of cleaning products. Make sure you’re using gentle products and soft towels. Don’t forget to clean the mirror and mop the floors as needed, too.

Kitchen

You should wipe down all the surfaces in your RV kitchen daily, especially after cooking a meal to prevent grease buildup. If you end up with buildup on your stove or oven, you can make a paste out of baking soda and water to apply to the entire surface that can sit overnight. In the morning, wipe and rinse off to remove the grime. You should also make it a habit to clean out your fridge by removing old food and wiping down the shelves. Make sure that everything in your pantry is useful and not expired. Wash and put dishes away after you use them to avoid a pileup in your small space.

Bedroom

With use, your mattress can get odorous and dirty so should freshen it up. You can sprinkle some baking soda on the surface and let it sit for a bit before you vacuum it up. You can also add spritzes of lavender or other essential oils mixed with water for a pleasant scent. Wash pillows and sheets regularly. You should have extra linens on the RV, specifically for extra long trips so you don’t have to go several weeks without changing your sheets. Keep all clutter in the rig to a minimum and make sure to put laundry away once it’s done so it doesn’t consume too much space.

Living Room

All the surfaces of the RV should be dusted weekly including the blinds and on top of the cabinets. Encourage all occupants of the RV to minimize clutter by putting away games, books, crafts and tools when done with them. It also helps to label cabinets with the contents so you can find things easily. Wipe down or brush couches and chairs. If you have microfiber coverings, you can spray them with rubbing alcohol and scrub lightly with a cleaning brush to remove any stains.

Vents

When cleaning our campers, we tend to forget about the vents in the ceilings. In such a small space, these vents can get pretty dirty pretty quickly. They won’t need to be cleaned often, but when you do, you’ll want to make sure you wash out the screens, clean the filters, and scrub the inside of the vent. We also recommend leaving them open for a little while to help them dry faster and air out a little bit before closing everything up again.

Floor

Camping takes you into the heart of nature away from the bustle of the city. This is fun but muddy, dirty shoes can muck up your floors pretty quickly. If you have carpeted floors, consider getting a hand vacuum. This may make vacuuming more time consuming, but they’re easier to store. You may also want to get carpet cleaner for little spills and hire a professional every once in a while for something more thorough. If you have tile, laminate, or other hard floor surfaces, you can easily find a compact mop to make storage easier.
