The RVs For Long Road Trips
RVs are great for the campground, but they can also make long family road trips much easier. But not every model and style works well for long drives, so we here at Allan Dale Trailers & RVs have put together a brief guide to help you get the best RV for the job. Motorhomes
Motorhomes are one of two broad categories of RV, and they’re excellent on these long, boring runs. A motorhome utilizes its own drivetrain, meaning you don’t need a tow vehicle—you just drive the RV itself! Passengers aren’t stuck in the tow vehicle or a following car, and can instead relax in the motorhome proper.
You should still be cautious while the motorhome is moving, so no running around or lounging. But even with that restriction, it’s still a more convenient and cozy way to travel. The driver can even switch out and take their own turn kicking back!
Aim For Safe And Smooth Driving
The longer the drive, the more important it is to pay attention to driving-related features. Tire pressure monitors, for instance, can give you real-time information about the RV’s tire health so you can catch issues early. Other things you should consider buying or including, if you don’t have them already:
- Blind spot detection.
- A solar panel to charge up from sunlight gathered on the drive.
- A dedicated GPS with a larger screen than your phone that doesn’t need cell coverage.
- Improved front sway bars and additional rear sway bars to limit sway.
It’s cheaper to get an RV that comes with these, but that’s not always in the cards. Upgrading your model with them, however, is more than worth it.
Fuel Efficiency
Whether you’re driving your RV or towing it, the RV’s size and weight will impact your fuel efficiency. Gas is a big cost on road trips, and planning ahead for your fuel economy will help you get to further destinations more often on a reasonable budget.
Lightweight RVs tend to have better fuel economy, so getting the biggest RV you can afford isn’t always the best option. Extra rooms, space, and storage balloon your fuel consumption, so focus on an RV that will get you the best fuel efficiency without sacrificing any necessities or comforts.
We hope these tips help you and yours enjoy your next RV-assisted road trip! If you have any questions, or you’re interested in seeing the RVs we have available, contact us at Allan Dale Trailers & RVs. We proudly serve all of Alberta—let us serve you today!
