How to Make Money on the Road
Whether you live in your RV full-time or you simply travel frequently in it, you’re bound to save yourself a great deal of money. RVs pay for themselves over time with how much money they save you on lodging, transportation and food costs.
However, while RVs may be an economical way to live or travel, they aren’t completely free. You have to worry about fuel, maintenance, insurance and campground fees in addition to everyday living expenses like food, clothing, toiletries and medication. But if you’re on the road a lot, how can you earn your keep?
Allan Dale Trailers & RVs is one of the premier RV dealers in Edmonton, AB. As such, we’ve provided you with this list of ways you can make some extra money while you’re traveling in your RV.
Temp Work
One option is to take on a temporary gig in the city where you’re staying for the next week or month. These jobs are useful if you’re particularly itinerant and find yourself moving from place to place several times a year.
Campground Jobs
Check with the staff of the campground you’re staying in to see whether there are any jobs you can do around the premises. Some campgrounds will pay hourly wages or reduce your camping fees if you can do some work for them. Camp host is a popular job that involves collecting fees, checking people in, maintaining the grounds and general upkeep. You may also be able to teach a class if you’re experienced in something like drawing or crafts. Gardening, cleaning, park assistants and activity directors are other potential gigs that you might take.
Gigs
Craigslist and other online resources can point you in the direction of odd jobs that need doing in the general area. You’ll probably want a reliable form of transportation to get around to do these jobs, but you could find work helping people move, doing yard work, cleaning or running errands.
Permanent Work
Of course, there are also more permanent part-time and full-time jobs that can be done remotely, provided you have a laptop, a phone and a reliable internet connection. Your own employer may be able to work with you on this, or you may want to seek out a different option.
Freelancing
A great many of today’s jobs can be done remotely, thanks to widespread internet connectivity and fast computers and smart phones. You likely already have some of the skills required to perform this work; you’ll just need to get online and find it. Freelance work might include data entry, tech support, editing, writing, filmmaking, photography, graphic design or sales calls. You’ll want to ensure that you’re always staying somewhere with a reliable wifi connection or you might want to have your own mobile hotspot with you if you need to get online in a remote area.
Selling Crafts
Are you an artisan of some kind? Etsy and other online resources make selling your wares easy and enjoyable and you can do it wherever you can find a post office. You can also look up craft fairs to visit while you travel and see about setting up a booth. Knitting, crocheting, weaving, beading, pottery, woodworking, painting and photography can all result in products that can be sold online or at craft fairs. Take your favorite hobby and turn it into profit!
We hope these jobs provide you with the money you need to continue your RVing adventures. Seeking RVs for sale in Alberta? Check our website to see the full stock of new and used trailers at our locations in Red Deer and Edmonton. Allan Dale Trailers & RVs proudly serves all of Alberta.
