Buying an RV can be an incredible way to elevate your camping or road trip experience, but sometimes the model you got just doesn’t fit. This leads to buyer’s remorse, the feeling or regret that you didn’t buy something more well-suited to your lifestyle. We here at Allan Dale Trailers & RVs want to help you avoid that situation at all costs, so we’ve put together some tips for avoiding common causes of RV-related buyer’s remorse. To learn more, or to see the RVs we have for sale, contact our stores in Red Deer and Edmonton, Alberta, today!

Floor Plans

One of the biggest factors in whether or not you regret the RV you bought is its floor plan. Not enough space, or an inefficient use of it, can make the RV feel cramped and claustrophobic. Too much space, however, can lead to higher fuel and maintenance costs for space you don’t end up needing or even wanted.

To avoid this, start by actively collecting all the information that factors into how much space you need. The number of people you tend to travel with, the items you want to bring, etc. The better you’re able to figure out your space-related needs, the easier it is to find a good match.

We also recommend exploring the floor plans available to you, especially in person. Get a feel for what best fits you and your group.

Maneuvering

Of course, there’s no vacation if you can’t get your RV to the site in the first place. If you struggle to handle and maneuver your camper, it can make the drive stressful, unpleasant, and even unsafe.

Ask yourself the following questions before finalizing a purchase:

  • Would I rather drive a tow vehicle hitched to a trailer, or drive the camper itself?
  • What size vehicle and/or trailer am I comfortable controlling?
  • Do I have room in the budget for drive-improving features like better suspension and vibration dampening?

Extra Features

The features in your RV can also contribute to buyer’s remorse. Some folks pay extra for features they never end up using or needing. Other folks pass on features that they later wish their rig had. There’s plenty that can be added as an aftermarket accessory, but those options tend to cost more than if they’d just come with the RV.

Do some research into RV features and try to figure out what you and yours would value, use, or need. Look through customer reviews to see if there are any trends in relation to specific problems or tools. Talk to your local dealership for an extra perspective and extra recommendations. Basically, gather all the info you possibly can.
